What happens at end of life?
The end-of-life process can vary greatly from person to person, but there are some common physical, mental, and emotional changes that often occur. Here are some key aspects to expect: To be rejigchecked
Physical Changes
Reduced Appetite and Thirst: As the body begins to shut down, the need for food and water decreases. This can lead to weight loss and dehydration.
Increased Sleep: People often sleep more as they near the end of life, sometimes spending most of the day in bed.
Changes in Breathing: Breathing patterns may become irregular, with periods of rapid breaths followed by pauses. This is known as Cheyne-Stokes respiration.
Skin Changes: The skin may become cool to the touch, and you might notice a bluish or mottled appearance, especially on the hands, feet, and knees.
Loss of Bodily Functions: There may be a loss of control over bladder and bowel functions.
Mental and Emotional Changes
Withdrawal: People often begin to withdraw from social interactions and may spend more time reflecting on their life.
Confusion and Delirium: There can be periods of confusion or disorientation, especially as the body and brain receive less oxygen.
Visions and Hallucinations: Some people report seeing or speaking with deceased loved ones or having vivid dreams.
Providing Comfort
Pain Management: Ensuring the person is comfortable and pain-free is a primary goal. This often involves medications and other palliative care measures.
Emotional Support: Being present, listening, and offering reassurance can provide immense comfort. Simple acts like holding their hand or speaking softly can be very soothing.
Creating a Peaceful Environment: Keeping the room quiet, dimly lit, and playing soft music can help create a calming atmosphere.
Final Moments
In the final moments, breathing will typically become more irregular and eventually stop. The heart will cease to beat, and the person will become unresponsive. Their skin may turn pale and waxen as blood circulation stops.
Understanding these changes can help you better prepare and provide the necessary support and comfort during this difficult time.
About us and our products
About us
Welcome to End of Life Audios, where we specialize in creating digital recordings for end-of-life care. Our mission is to provide comfort, connection, and peace to individuals and their loved ones during life’s most challenging times.
Our Story
Our journey began over six years ago when our Managing Director, Michael,
experienced the profound impact of a personal recording he created for a dear
friend nearing the end of her life.
This heartfelt gesture brought immense comfort to his friend and her family
and highlighted the decisive role that his 33 years (at that time) of
delivering therapeutic sessions could bring.
Michael's unique combination of working with private and referred patients
at his medical centre-based practice in Cheshire, England, and his 28 years of
expertise in researching and developing health-focused digital recordings were
key factors in embarking on the development of this program.
With all his years of experience developing health and personal development
programs, developing this end-of-life program seemed like a natural and
much-needed progression.
Michael has dedicated his career to enhancing the well-being of others, both
young and old, strong and weak, rich and poor. This dedication drives our
services, providing reassurance and confidence to our customers and their
families.
What we offer
We can summarise this in only a few sentences: We offer our
best products, our best service, and our best pricing.
Our main program is the end-of-life audio program. We understand
it's not always the easiest conversation to have, but we sincerely believe that
the more we discuss and face the issue, the easier it generally tends to be.
Our program is designed to bring comfort and relief, helping you and your loved
ones prepare.
We also have supplemental short story recordings, told in an
old-worldly way in an easy, gentle listening style.
And the really great thing ... our recordings can also be used alongside other support you may be recieving.
EoL Audio Program
The End-of-Life Audio Program—MP3 or Streamed Digital Recordings: We created this multi-session audio program to aid in reducing fear, give encouragement, and help allay some of the concerns often expressed at the end of life.
Short Stories Library
The Short Stories Library. A collection of short stories for easy listening. Charming Folktales. These stories have an old-world quality, combining elements of magic, wisdom, and reassurance.
They might be passed down through generations and evoke a sense of nostalgia, reassurance, and comfort in the listener.
Wherever you are on your journey, we recognize that End-of-Life care begins the moment a diagnosis is given (some people are intuitively aware that their EoL Journey has begun).
We want to support as many people as possible at whatever stage they are at, from those recently made aware to mid- and end-of-journey.
In development
In Development: We are looking to bring new services and recordings very soon, including:
Short encouraging videos to encourage and support you.
